The Crisis of Canadian Democracy

By Andrew Coyne

Hardcover: pr7901991

Pub Date: May 2025

Andrew Coyne, one of Canada’s most esteemed political thinkers, delivers a powerful exposé of the nation’s crumbling democratic institutions.

With characteristic wit, insight, and rigor, Coyne dismantles the comforting myths Canadians tell themselves about their political system, revealing a parliamentary structure eroded by unaccountable leaders, disempowered MPs, manipulated elections, and systemic dysfunction.

The Crisis of Canadian Democracy is both a wake-up call and a call to action, offering compelling solutions to restore genuine self-government to Canadian politics. Essential reading for leaders, citizens, and anyone who cares about the future of democracy in Canada—or anywhere else.

Set in the early 1950s, while Britain is still suffering through the aftermath of the Second World War, the local priest at St Mary's Catholic Church in fictional Cotswold village Kembleford often finds himself solving the town's biggest crimes. In addition to his typical parish duties, Father Brown uses his love and understanding of other people to ensure justice is served, and the right person held accountable (though in some circumstances, not always to the standard of the law). Assisted by the parish secretary and his own wit and sharp intellect, Father Brown works his way through a series of mishaps and intriguing clues to piece together the truth at every turn.

Library Bound offers a comprehensive Standing Orders program for both Adult and Children’s titles. Any title that releases annually or semi-annually can be placed on a Standing Order program with LBI. Through our program we are able to negotiate the best possible discounts through consolidated bulk purchasing and we then pass these savings on to the Library. LBI sends master publications lists for Reference titles and Children’s Reference titles and requests that the Library identifies the annual reference titles they are interested in, as well as the quantity of copies, order code and cataloguing and processing requirements (i.e. REF or CIRC). Additional title requests from the library can be added to the profile. LBI also manages subscription services and loose-leaf through publishers such as Carswell, CCH and other vendors.

Library Bound can organize the transfer of any existing standing order titles from other vendors, and/or wholesalers. Online management features for Standing Orders include the option for the Library to assign a specific order code to track and view Standing Orders spending. If the Library has multiple order codes for standing orders, a specific username will be created so that all funds may be tracked.
