He’s Canadian.

He was hilarious as the host of the 2013 Juno Awards.

He just released a great new album, To Be Loved.

Is there anything Michael Bublé can’t do?

"Hokulea"
by AO Music

AOMusic is a pan-cultural world/new age musical group that has taken it upon themselves to create music to help children in need around the world.

The music is a fusion of exotic rhythms, vocal ensembles from children throughout the world, and the vocal tracks of Miriam Stockley (the voice of Karl Jenkins' Adiemus project).

I find the music to be relaxing yet energizing and uplifting.

Previously, Lady Antebellum had released a holiday EP, but 2012 brings On This Winter's Night, a full-length Christmas album recorded with deliberation and care by the country-pop trio.

Working once again with their longtime producer Paul Worley, the band has written a new song in the record's title track but otherwise devotes themselves to Christmas classics and carols, including 'A Holly Jolly Christmas,' 'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),' 'All I Want for Christmas,' 'The First Noel,' 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' and 'Blue Christmas.'

by David Ian

This jazz-oriented album is perfect background music for Christmas dinner parties or relaxing by the fire.

Toronto-born David Ian lists Vince Guaraldi among his influences and it is easy to hear in the music.  Roughly half of the songs are instrumental and sound like they belong on the soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas. The rest feature the vocals of Acacia and Andre Miguel Mayo.

It has been enthusiastically supported by CBC Radio (both English and French national) as well as other national and international radio stations.  Don’t let this one pass you by.

"Christmas"
by Michael Bublé

As I write this, it is 2 weeks past Thanksgiving and the new Michael Bublé album, Christmas, has just been released.  This album is going to be on repeat in my collection this year.

The whole album has the feel of a Bing Crosby Christmas album, updated for a new generation.  Michael Bublé’s voice is like silk handling the songs.  Jingle Bells (featuring the Puppini Sisters) is reminiscent of the Bing Crosby/Andrews Sisters collaboration.  Other guests on the album include Shania Twain and Thalia.

Do yourself a favour and buy this album.  It is destined to be a classic!

"Ghost On The Canvas"
by Glen Campbell

According to the liner notes, Glen Campbell’s newest album, Ghost On The Canvas, is also the last studio record of new songs that Glen Campbell ever plans to make.  He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease sometime during its recording. Campbell goes on to say in the liner notes that the album is comprised of snapshots of his life and career and is probably the most personal album he has ever made.

Several guest artists collaborated with him including Chris Isaak, Jakob Dylan, Billy Corgan, Brian Setzer, and the Dandy Warhols, among many others.  It is a companion album to his 2008 release Meet Glen Campbell (which I also loved), on which Campbell covered a number of modern rock songs.

It is an enjoyable, though bittersweet, farewell album.

Wow!  Not my usual genre, but what a great album!  Brothers was released in 2010, but the song “Tighten Up”  has been showing up in a few different commercial situations recently.  The album has a bluesy-rock feel and is worthy of a listen.  Try to get an actual CD to see the “mood” label on the disc.  It is completely black before playing, but after warming up in your CD player, the label turns white with black lettering.  Very cool indeed!

Wasting Light is the much-anticipated new release, the first since the Foo Fighters’ last studio album in 2007.  It is easy to see why it debuted at #1 in twelve countries including Canada.  The album starts out in high octane and roars throughout most of it.  It slows down for a couple of songs, especially notable on the emotional second last song, “I Should Have Known”.  The final song on the album, “Walk”, is one of my favourites.  It is like the phoenix rising from the ashes of the previous song and the perfect closer to the album.

by Various Artists

The soundtrack to Eat Pray Love is a great complement to the plot of the movie and book Eat Pray Love: One Woman’s Search For Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia. It is a pleasing mix of pop/rock, soul and world music that enhances the story.  Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder wrote a brand new song called “Better Days” which has a dash of world music flavour.  I especially liked the song “The Long Road” by Eddie Vedder with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. which was originally recorded in 1995.

 "Seven Second Surgery"
by Faber Drive

Last year, when Mission, B.C.'s Faber Drive decided to submit a song to 99.3 The Fox's Battle of the Bands, they weren't even sure they were good enough to enter. In fact, when frontman Dave Faber took his band's CD to the station on the deadline day for submissions, he nearly gave up and went back home. "I actually got back in my car and pulled away," he says. "Then I decided to go back, so I turned the car around and I got up in the office just before it closed and handed in the disc."

It turned out to be the best move of the band's career. Out of more than 500 submissions, the Vancouver radio station chose the song "Sex and Love" as one of the 20 best. The song was played on the radio in a head to head competition against the other qualifiers and soon Faber Drive (then called Faber) was in the top 10. After live competitions at local clubs, they won first place and were voted the best band in Vancouver.

Listening to Seven Second Surgery, it's easy to see why. When I first heard "Second Chance", I knew I had to get the album. It's a great listen! Other favourite songs on the album include "Tongue Tied" and "Summer Fades to Fall"
