Split Tooth by Tanya Tagaq
A combination of memoir, fiction, poetry and myth that tells the story of a girl growing up in Nunavut in the 1970s. As with Ms Tagaq's live musical performances, this work is filled with unexpected twists and turns, sorrow and beauty. That said, the overwhelming impression is one of magic and awe. This is the literary equivalent of the dancing magic found in The Northern Lights.

Mother American Night: My Life in Crazy Times by John Perry Barlow
When first reading the synopsis for this, my reaction was likely a common one: "how could I have never heard of this guy?" You'll want to. Barlow quite possibly qualifies as "The Most Interesting Man in the World" in an American baby boomer last man standing sort of way. Former lyricist for the Grateful Dead, Wyoming cattle rancher, political activist, friend of Neal Cassady, Steve Jobs and Jackie Kennedy, campaign manager for Dick Cheney and co-founder of the Electronic Freedom Foundation and that’s just scratching the surface. Definitely a long strange trip of a life, and told like Will Rogers on acid.
